Vroom and Doom: Risks and Tips for Motorcyclists

Vroom and Doom: Risks and Tips for Motorcyclists [vc_row el_class="child__page"][vc_column][vc_column_text]California is home to more than 1.2 million licensed motorcyclists and many more car and truck drivers. With so many motorists on the road, it is important for everyone to drive safely. Motorcycle users must be especially cautious because of their increased exposure to injury and the dangers other drivers present, such as when a car turns in front of a motorcyclist. Unfortunately, accidents are common and the number of victims killed or injured in motorcycle-involved collisions has been rising for the past 10 years in California. According to the California Highway Patrol’s traffic-records system, 586 motorcyclists were killed and another 13,252 were injured in motorcycle crashes throughout the state in 2008. Motorcyclists in the Bay Area can take the following steps to enjoy a safer ride:
  • Complete a motorcycle rider-training course.
  • Never ride without a certified motorcycle helmet and eye protection.
  • Wear protective boots, gloves and other protective clothing.
  • Wear bright, visible colors on the upper body.
  • Be especially alert at intersections and driveways.
  • Use the headlights day and night.
  • Maintain a safe speed and distance from cars or hazards on the road.
If you or a loved one has been injured or killed by another driver while riding a motorcycle, contact an experienced personal injury attorney to hold the responsible party accountable.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
